Well we survived Columbus day weekend and had a fantastic time. Correction, Laurie and the kids had a fantastic time. They went to Goodwin State forest to explore and do some hiking. From what I understand they explored the one trail they had not been on before. The “red” trail which takes them down to Governor’s Island. It is really just a landing pad and I don’t believe there is a way to get to the island itself as boats are not allowed in Pine Acres Lake adjacent to the trail system. Laurie did say that if you venture on to this particular trail system, prepare to do some jumping from rock to rock. The trail is littered with huge stones and while beautiful, may not be the safest place to take any small children.

A Charming Biker’s Cafe in the Country
In my last post I mentioned a lunch spot that Laurie, the kids and I wound up visiting after our adventure trying to picnic. The restaurant is called Vanilla Bean Cafe and located in Pomfret, CT. I highly recommend visiting if you are ever in the area. The building itself has an old country charm and the staff are very accommodating. The food itself comes in large portions and is absolutely delicious. I opted for the turkey and avocado sandwich and from what I understand, all of the meat and vegetables are locally sourced. Many restaurants and sandwich shops in the area source their ingredients from local farmers which I am a fan of.

About the Blog
Several years ago my lovely wife Laurie and I purchased a small home on a relatively large piece of land in Eastern Connecticut and started a family. We settled here because it’s not too far from Laurie’s parent’s house, good school system, and It’s where she was raised. It’s taken me a while to get used to being in such a small town but I really enjoy living here now, as it has helped me appreciate the peacefulness of being close to nature and appreciate much more about what’s important in life.
